MED MAL VICTORY
Nevadans deserve a healthcare system that prioritizes their well-being, not corporate profits. Unfortunately, a system driven by the bottom line has often left patients vulnerable and without recourse when medical negligence occurs. When institutions and providers put financial gain before patient care, the result is avoidable harm and a culture of unaccountability.
At Empower Nevadans Now, we believe that those responsible for patient harm must be held accountable. We are committed to dismantling the barriers that have historically shielded wrongdoers from justice. Our work is not about compromise; it is about securing the rights of patients and ensuring that they have a clear path to justice. Our successful campaign to reform Nevada's medical malpractice laws in 2023 was a hard-won victory for patients, a crucial first step in restoring balance and demanding fairness from the system.
UBER SUCCESS STORY
In 2024, multibillion-dollar tech company Uber tried to use the Nevada ballot to protect themselves from their own negligence. And when corporations act negligently, they should not be allowed to hide from the consequences. Rather than improve their safety standards, big corporations and special interests attempted to use their political influence to make it impossible for victims to get justice. This was a cynical attempt by a powerful corporation to evade accountability for its own negligence by subverting the civil justice system.
Empower Nevadans Now stood against this effort, fighting to ensure that Nevadans put out of work, permanently disabled, or otherwise harmed by a big corporation's wrongdoing are empowered to hold them accountable in a civil court of law. ENN sued and the Nevada Supreme Court blocked the initiative. This was a critical victory that reaffirmed the right of everyday Nevadans to seek justice from those who would otherwise hide from it.
